BOP dominates finals draw

Three of the four division one finalists at the North Island Junior Volleyball Championships are Western Bay of Plenty school teams.

Mount Maunganui College and Tauranga Girls' College will meet in the girls' final and Tauranga Boys' College meets Tikipunga High School in the boys' final today.

Mount Maunganui Girls qualified for the semis after a three set win over Sir Edmund Hillary College in the quarter final.

Event director Pam Brodie says the Mount Maunganui girls then took a comfortable 2-0 win over Bethlehem College in the semi final.

Tauranga Girls' College won its quarter final over Otumoetai College 2-0, but looked to have met their match in the semi against defending champs Mangere College, however, they fought back to take a three set thriller.

In the boys' division, Tauranga Boys' College edged past Trident High School in three sets in its quarter final, then in the semi they held their composure in a high quality match against Western Heights High School to win 2-0.

Tikipunga High School continued its run with a three set win over Whakatane High School and then another three set win over Orewa College to advance to the final.

The division one girls' final is at 3.30pm at the TECT Arena at Baypark, with the division one boys' final between Tauranga Boys' College play Tikipunga High School to follow at 4.45pm.

The division two finals feature Hastings Christian College versus Kawerau College in the girls' division and Gisborne Boys' High School and Trident High School B in the boys'.
