First past the post wrapped up

In spite of just two BOP Cup games being played on Saturday, December 3, Element IMF Cadets effectively wrapped up the first past the post competition, with a round remaining.

The Cadets encounter with East Bay United was short and sharp, with the Eastern Bay side spending more time travelling to the Tauranga Domain, than on the field of play.

Batting first the East Bay United batsman offered little resistance, as they were removed for a meagre 38 runs. The two joint top scores of just 9 runs, told the tale of a procession of batsmen coming and going in quick order. Former Bay of Plenty representative bowler Campbell Wilson led the bowling rewards, taking four wickets for 15 runs. James Birchall, Morgan Bidois and Matt Hill all took two cheap wickets apiece.

It took just 28 balls for the Cadets victory. Skipper Jono Boult blasted 25 not out as Cadets galloped home to a ten wicket victory. With the Mount Maunganui verses Rotorua Central match not proceeding because of a wet pitch – Cadets have now accumulated enough points to win the BOP Cup for the first time, in the three season that the one-day trophy has been on the line.

A hat trick by Eves Realty Greerton's Dutch Academy player Sebastiaan Braat, took centre stage as his side posted a win against Rotorua Boys High, at the High School grounds in Rotorua. While the Rotorua students were dismissed for 81, they didn't surrender their wickets easily with the last wicket falling in the 50th over of their innings.

Former Bay wicket keeper Craig Budd scored an undefeated 48, as Greerton grabbed victory with seven wickets to spare.
