Customers make switch as Tiny Mighty closes

Tiny Mighty customers in the Eastern Bay of Plenty are some of many who may be noticing changes to the name of their electricity provider on their latest monthly bill.

The company, which is owned by Mercury New Zealand Limited, has closed its services throughout the country with all customers being transitioned to its parent company, Mercury.

Mercury and Tiny Mighty head of operations Andrew Peckham says the transition is about improving services for customers.

'This is about bringing more competition and better deals for Bay of Plenty locals and all the regions where we operate.

'We haven't had any physical branches for over a year now. We changed this to focus on better digital and phone service which is what most customers prefer.

'We're making this change in all areas, but we're certainly not leaving town.”

In the lead up to the transition, Tiny Mighty power has supplied electricity to eight provinces including the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Far North, North Canterbury, Marlborough, Taupo and Rotorua, Thames Valley and Matamata/Piako, Waipa and Wairarapa.

Andrew says a lot of work has gone into making the transition smooth.

'We've been focused on communicating openly with our customers, which is why we've written to them a month in advance with all the information they need.

'Customers receive that letter with their final Tiny Mighty bill, as well as a notification on the actual bill itself in case they missed the letter.

'We tested this approach with a small group first to make sure it was a smooth and transparent experience.

'We also have a team on the phones who are dedicated to helping customers through the transition.

'There's a handful who haven't received their letter yet, because the timing depends on when their last bill falls. This group will be getting their letter in the next couple of weeks.”

He says most customers won't need to do a thing.

'We want our Tiny Mighty customers to enjoy the same benefits that all Mercury customers get.

'We've invested a lot in our Mercury brand so it makes sense that all our customers benefit from this.

'We're really happy that the vast majority of customers have chosen to stay with us through the transition, which is a great reflection of the fact that every Tiny Mighty customer will be getting a better deal with Mercury.

'The prices are all the same, or lower, and there are other added benefits.”

Some of these include Airpoints rewards, free power days and eBike and eScooter discounts.

'The main change is that customers who aren't on direct debit will need to use new payment details when paying Mercury for the first time, but we've made sure all the information they need is in their Mercury bill for them.

'We'd really just like to tell customers that we're excited to have them with Mercury and are looking forward to demonstrating our commitment to making things easy, rewarding and inspiring.”
