More rain for the week ahead

Rain has fallen everywhere across the country during the past week, increasing the soil moisture levels in drier areas, while bringing too much rain for some.

It also brought problems for many events this weekend, resulting in a few event postponements and cancellations.

Some notable rainfall totals in the past 24 hours were around 60 to 70mm over the Kaimai and Coromandel Ranges, and 40 to 60mm around coastal Bay of Plenty.

'MetService has more rain in the forecast for the working week ahead, as a complex trough of low pressure stretches from the Tasma Sea across much of Aotearoa, maintaining moist, humid conditions over central and northern parts of the country,” says MetService forecaster Cameron Coutts.

Tomorrow's forecast is set to be cloudy periods, with possible showers from afternoon and evening, with a chance of heavy downpours. There is also the chance of thunderstorms.
