The death of a man who was killed after being hit by a falling tree in Paengaroa, has been referred to the coroner.
Emergency services were called to the workplace fatality on Tuesday, just after midday.
The accident happened on a property on Allport Road, near State Highway 33.
A WorkSafe spokeswoman says they had been made aware of the man's death.
The spokesperson says a man had been fatally injured in a tree-felling incident.
The workplace accident happened around the same time as a two vehicle crash on State Highway 2, at Whakamarama.
A 75-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash between a car and ute at the intersection of Plummers Point Road.
The crashed caused with highway to be closed, but it was reopened about an hour after the crash.
A Bay of Plenty District Health Board communications spokesperson says the woman is in a stable condition in Tauranga Hospital.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
