TBC battling at Gillette Cup

It's tough going for Tauranga Boys' College at this year's Gillette Cup being played at Lincoln Oval in Christchurch.

The team is on just two points after four rounds of play with competition leader King's College unbeaten on eight points.

In round four Tauranga Boys' College matched up against Hutt International Boys' School.

Tauranga Boys' opted to bat first and would have been questioning that decision as they quickly fell to 18 for three after seven overs.

Thankfully the collapse stopped there with Cameron Neal and Joshua Dwight forming a valuable partnership for the fourth wicket.

Joshua was dismissed for 57, only to be replaced by Ben Musgrave, who smashed a lightning fast 22.

Cameron stuck around long enough to bring up his first century of the tournament playing brilliantly for his 107 and carrying his team to 230 for five after 50 overs.

The pace of Will Brunton troubled the Tauranga batsman as he claimed the impressive figures of three for 39 off nine overs.

Hutt got off to a flyer in their innings as Mark McIlvride and Michael Parish put on 103 for the first wicket.

Michael fell just short of his half century on 47 and Hutt struggled to form another meaningful partnership.

Mark did his best, but was finally dismissed for 70 after giving his team a chance of victory.

With three wickets in hand, Michael needed 24 runs off the last six overs.

Captain Sam Fraser and Will Brunton kept level heads and finished off this nail biting match in the 48th over.

It was Hutt International's first win of the tournament.

Tauranga Boys' College is up against Otago Boys' High School today.

Tauranga Boys' College 230-5 (Neal 107, Dwight 57) lost to Hutt International Boys' School 232-5 (McIlvride 70, Timoti 3-34)
