A popular Tauranga nightclub located in the central business district is now closed.

The Bahama Hut, located on Hamilton Street off The Strand in Tauranga, have announced on Facebook they have permanently closed.

In the post the owners say 'that The Bahama Hut might be closed now but we'll see what the future holds”.

'We could sit here and explain how, why and who, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.

'We would like to thank you all for your business over the past 18 years. It's been a fun ride and we've had a blast doing it.”

Bahama Hut started on Wharf Street in late 2000 and shut in late 2005, then reopened in Hamilton in early 2006 and shut in late 2010.

In mid-2011 was when it reopened in Tauranga on Harington Street, there Facebook page says it was the best one yet.

'Absolutely smashed it for the past seven years and haters can say what they want but we killed it and lasted longer than anyone else, many came and went.

'The energy from the crowd especially in the Harington venue was absolutely insane, people who came from out of town or overseas would always comment about how crazy the crowd was.

'We'll be the first to admit the current building didn't really compare to the Harington Street location but it still did the job.

'It's been seven years and it's time for someone else to have a go at it and see how it goes for them.

'Maybe we'll give it a few years and have another go with a new concept.

'Again we can't thank you all enough for your visits, every weekend was the highlight of our week.”
