The base track around Mauao is closed due to slips and debris caused by bad weather.

In a statement released by the Tauranga City Council it says it is not possible to walk around the base track.

'At this stage, all other tracks on Mauao remain open.

'We will provide an update when the base track will be open and safe to use.”
