BOP girls undefeated

Bay of Plenty, which is hosting the ND Secondary Schoolgirl Cricket tournament on in Rotorua, made an outstanding start to the annual tournament on day one.

In their Sunday morning Twenty20 game, they restricted Waikato Valley to just 44/8.


Jo Tarris, Kate Anderson and Katie Mountain all took two wickets apiece.

Bay of Plenty coasted to victory without losing a wicket, with Jacinta Coleman (18no) and Tia Robinson (16no) getting their side home in just six overs.

Hamilton and Counties Manukau had a real battle in the other morning encounter.

Hamilton posted 76/8 batting first, with Maxine Rawnsley and Katie Gurry bowling with enthusiasm grabbing two wickets apiece.

While Counties got home for victory, they lost six wickets on the way.

Katie Johnson top scored with an unbeaten 33, with Shani Fernando returned figures of 2/12 with the ball.

Bay of Plenty laid down the gauntlet to the other title contenders when they remained the only unbeaten team on day one after cruising to an eight-wicket win against Counties.

Batting first, Counties was in good form posting 99/7.

Katie Johnson backed up her morning batting performance to smack 34 runs.

Megan Ensor (3/16) and Kate Anderson (2/10) did the damage with the ball for Bay of Plenty.

In another impressive performance, Tia Robinson (29no) Jacinta Coleman (23) and Kate Anderson (22) took Bay of Plenty to victory losing just two wickets.

Bat dominated ball in the clash between Hamilton and Waikato Valley.

The Waikato Valley team reached 91/4 with Tiana O'Connell (25) and Emma Parker (23) in good touch.

However, after losing an early wicket, Hamilton knuckled down to grab a nine-wicket win.

Issy Coombes (41no) and Abbie Wilson (30no) put together a partnership that took their side home to victory.
