There are multiple ways to welcome in the New Year here in the Bay.

And if you're wanting to go out and celebrate with locals, there are a number of council-run events taking the town by storm on December 31.

If you're in the CBD to greet 2019, head to the Tauranga Waterfront from 6pm to enjoy food stalls, roving performers, live music and even a visit from Batman and the Batmobile.

At 9.30pm the sky will be lit with a fireworks display. Water refill stations will be onsite for you to fill drink bottles.

Papamoa will say ‘Hi' to the New Year at Gordon Spratt Reserve with a family-friendly event from 6pm-9.30pm. Three will be kids' rides, music, games, roving performers, street food, pony rides and a petting zoo, which will be available until 8.30pm. The evening will be topped off with fireworks at 9.30pm.

Finally, Matua will see in 2019 with an event for family, friends and neighbours at Fergusson Park from 6pm. There will be early-evening entertainment with Batman and characters from the movie ‘Frozen' wandering around to greet children. Plus there will be street food and a fireworks display at 9.30pm.

All three events are alcohol-free and more information can be found at: www.mytauranga.co.nz
