What’s on? Your guide to Bay Dreams 2019

Good morning SunLive readers and welcome back to the second of your two public holidays.

The weather gods are blessing us with fine and sunny weather today with some westerly breezes. A high of 27°c is forecast for the day with an overnight low of 17°c.

For most of us the day concludes a well-earned summer break, with reality sinking in for those who will be heading back to work from tomorrow but one festival in the Bay is letting locals end the break with a bang.

The nation's favourite summer festival Bay Dreams takes place today.

The event features some of the hottest names in music, including international superstar Cardi B who performs her first of two New Zealand shows tonight at the Mount Maunganui festival.

Other artists include Shapeshifter, Tash Sultana, Sticky Fingers, Peking Duk, $uicideboy$, Macky Gee, Pnau, Katchafire, and many other acts.

The sold out show saw 30,000 tickets sell in just three weeks, and already the region is heating up with crowds amping to get to the event.

Four stages will be set up across the sprawl of Trustpower Baypark and the festival also includes a variety of food stalls, bars, water stations, arts and rides, medical stations and more.

A comprehensive traffic management plan has been put in place too.

A partial road closure of Truman Lane for Bay Dreams means Te Maunga Transfer Station will not be accessible from the Baypark roundabout end of Truman Lane on Wednesday, January 2 2019.

All access will instead be via the Sandhurst Interchange due to road closures associated with the Bay Dreams festival at Baypark.

'As this route diversion and event traffic may cause delays, residents are advised to postpone their visit to Te Maunga Transfer Station until Thursday 3 January, or later, if at all possible,” says Tauranga City Council.

Motorists are asked to follow all signs and directions of traffic management staff.

If you wish to avoid the risk of delays please consider the following:

• Use Te Maunga on January 3 when the road closures are removed.

• Use Te Maunga only this morning as traffic delays are expected to increase in the afternoon.

Bay Dreams will have a large-scale bus operation to transport people to and from the festival. The festival buses will run regularly from four convenient locations in the Tauranga CBD, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Windermere. Free parking will also be available at Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Windermere.

Ticket holders can log into their Ticket Fairy account before the festival and purchase a ticket for $10. Road closures will also be in place around Trustpower Baypark Stadium.

No parking is allowed on the roads surrounding the venue. Parking restrictions will be monitored and enforced by our traffic management and security teams, and have been approved by NZTA and NZ Police.
