Bay wins school girl tournament

The last day of the Northern Districts Secondary Schoolgirls Tournament being played in Rotorua finished with the Bay of Plenty again producing two dominant performances.

In the last round of round-robin play, the Bay of Plenty side met Hamilton in the morning encounter.


Bay of Plenty batted first and posted an impressive 129/2.

Kate Anderson top scored with 29 not out, while Tia Robinson and Anna Henson both reached 27.

Line and length bowling from the Bay side restricted Hamilton to 53/9.

Joanna Taris returned 3/11, with Ana Henson and Megan Ensor taking two wickets apiece.

Counties Manukau was awarded its final round-robin encounter against Waikato Valley, which failed to field a team on the last day.

Bay of Plenty then fronted up against Hamilton for the second time on day three to battle out the ND championship title.

Batting first, Hamilton made 73/2 with Caitlin Edwards in good touch, top scoring with 15 runs.

The Bay side was made to fight for victory, however, they reached their target in the 11th over for the loss of three wickets.

Alieda Oliver led the way with a crisp 22 with Kate Anderson backing up her morning batting performance with 17.
