Local derby to finish

While there was no good news from the two Bay teams at the Northern Districts senior secondary cricket tournament being played in Gisborne on day three – local supremacy will be fought out when the two sides meet in the playoffs in a two-day game on the remaining days of the tournament.

On day three, BOP Coastland bowled first against Waikato Valley Plains and removed their opponents for 153.

Tom Clout and Josh Dwight bowled with enthusiasm to take three wickets apiece.

However, the Coastland team came up nine runs short when they were bowled out for 145.

Cameron Neal posted a gritty 30 runs to top score for the Bay side.

BOP Lakeland also went agonisingly close to victory, finishing 11 runs short against Waikato Valley South. The Waikato Valley side posted 172/8 with off spinner Cody Fell taking 3/31.

In reply, BOP Lakelands were all out for 161.

Jonty Keaney 46 and Sam Pulis 45 put on 108 for the fourth wicket partnership, however, regular wickets fell after the two batsman departed.
