Cadets to win BOP Cup

Element IMF Cadets has the BOP Cup title in the bag entering the last round of competition this weekend.

With 15 points up for grabs for a victory, Cadets has an unassailable lead from defending BOP Cup titleholders Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui.

The BOP Cup, which was instituted as a second round of the Baywide cricket competition in 2009, has only ever had the Mount name engraved on it.

The BOP Cup title will join the nine Williams Cup crowns that Cadets have won in the last two decades.

This weekend Cadets will wrap up their BOP Cup season when they travel to Rotorua to play Rotorua Boys' High at the high school grounds.

While Mount Maunganui can't claim a three-peat of the BOP Cup, they will want to finish the title race with a victory.

The Mount's opponent is East Bay United, which is usually extremely competitive on its home track at Rex Morepeth Park.

Eves Realty Greerton will grab a top four finish with Tauranga Boys' College sitting out the bye.

However, Te Puke, which will host the Pemberton based side at the Te Puke Domain, can also post a top four finish if they get past the Greerton side.

A local derby will take centre stage at Boord Park, when iTCo Central meet BOP Indians.

While the Rotorua based Indian team sit at the bottom of the points table, they have showed enough form in their two years in Baywide cricket to suggest that they will become a force in the future with a good number of youngsters in their ranks.
