Man faces charges after Tauranga police chase

UPDATED 1.50PM: A male is facing multiple charges after fleeing police this afternoon.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle, but failed to do so at around 12.25pm.

A police spokesperson says it fled but was stopped after spikes were deployed.

'A 26-year-old man was taken into custody for failing to stop for police, possessing an offensive weapon and driving while disqualified.”

Callers to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says they saw police chasing the vehicle on Fraser Street and in the Maungatapu area.

One caller says they have never seen that much activity.

'There were five squad cars chasing the vehicle and one car was parked up with two police officers setting up spikes.”

A driver of a fleeing vehicle has led police on a chase through Tauranga this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says he saw five squad cars chasing a vehicle near Maugnatapu.

'There was also one car parked up with two police officers setting up spikes.

'I have never seen that much activity.”

Another caller says they saw police chasing a vehicle on Fraser Street, near Fraser Cove.

those nasty policemen again. they should stop chasing the innocent criminals
