Two people had to be rescued by the Maketu Coastguard after the boat they were in overturned in the weekend.

In a post on the Maketu Facebook page says a vessel overturned on the Maketu bar late Saturday night.

'The two occupants were rescued from the water using Kohinui Rescue and Jetski 1.
'One man was airlifted to hospital as a precaution,” says the post.

'We are very happy to report that he is back home and doing well, albeit a little tired.”

Coastguard recovered the overturned vessel on Sunday.
