Motorists who travel along Welcome Bay Road might have experienced some distruptions this morning as some found the road was closed near James Cook Drive.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says it was road maintenance with some patching and resealing of the road between James Cook Drive and Waitaha Road.

'The lane towards Welcome Bay is reopening at 4pm today, ahead of peak hour.

'The other lane (towards the city) is re-opening at 6pm today.

'There will be another detour tomorrow morning due to these works for the lane towards Welcome Bay, to finish a small portion down at the James Cook end of site.

'The detour will be signposted and is in place between 9am-1pm.”
