Police are appealing for witnesses as they continue to investigate an unexplained death in the Bay of Plenty.

Whakatane Police Detective Sergeant Darren Thomas says the body of a 48-year-old man was discovered by a member of the public at the Hikuwai Beach last month.

'Police want to speak with anyone who was in the area between 7am and 9am on Sunday 28 April.

'We urge anyone with information, even if you think it might not be important, to get in touch.”
