Sub-tropical rain will be pulled across the country as one of the two "enormous" highs affecting New Zealand moves away.

"This week New Zealand is stuck between two enormous highs and as the one that has affected us for over a week starts to move away sub-tropical rain will be pulled in across parts of the country," says WeatherWatch.co.nz

"The heaviest rain looks likely to affect the West Coast and the very north of NZ, with lowest totals in the east of both main islands."

Due to the moving high pressure on both sides of New Zealand, the areas of rain will shift around a little this week so it will be a bit hit and miss if you're needing relief, says the weather organisation.

"The rain is 'wedged' in between these two big highs.

"Either way, most places do get some warm rain before the next high moves in with a cooler change."
