On July 19 1919, peace celebrations were held throughout New Zealand to mark the official end of World War One.

To celebrate the centenary, a Peace Day photo exhibition will be held at Our Place in Willow Street with help from the Tauranga City Council, who is also throwing a Peace Day fun day just for kids.

The exhibition runs till July 31, with images from both public and private collections taking you back in time to see what Tauranga looked like a century ago, and how we celebrated the official end of World War One.

'The Peace Day exhibition is a great opportunity to support our local community in celebrating their history, culture and diversity,” says Tauranga City Council's general manager for community services, Gareth Wallis.

'The event not only allows us to reflect on a pivotal moment in New Zealand history, but the exhibition also provides an interesting snap shot into what Tauranga was like 100 years ago.

'We chose to hold the exhibition and fun day over the school holidays to provide a free event for families that was fun and educational,” says Gareth.

The family fun day is being held on Friday July 19, kicking off at 10am.

This 1920s themed day will have games, live music, a photo booth and hands-on workshops where kids can make cards, peace wheels and paper doves.

Event details:

Peace Day photography exhibition: Free event from Tuesday July 9 to Wednesday July 31, at Our Place.

Peace Day: Family Fun Day: Free event on Friday July 19 from 10am to 3pm, at Our Place. The workshops will run till 1pm and the photo booth will be there till 3pm.
