Volleyball to serve up champions

The New Zealand secondary schools volleyball championship is set to crown champions on Sunday, after today's pool play saw the top teams chosen to move to the finals.

Today also marks an special occasion, with the Olympic qualifier being held at Mount Maunganui for the first time.

Sport Bay of Plenty CoachForce manager Tim Cleaver says once pool play is completed they will be splitting the teams into division one, which is the top 16, and the division two, which will be the left overs.

'It's a two day event. They will start playing their division games this afternoon and then they will finish the pools Sunday morning, and around 11am they'll start the quarter-finals.”
He says 105 teams are competing to see who the best in the country is.

'The Bay of Plenty schools are looking to win the senior titles back off Auckland.

'All the finals will be on the centre court, which is being used for the Olympic Qualifier the first time it's been held at Mount Maunganui.”

All the finals will be on the centre court starting from 2pm on Sunday with the junior girls, right through until the senior girls around 4.30pm.
