What‘s on - surf courses, dachshunds and a ramble

Kia ora and welcome to Saturday.

Today we are expecting cloudy periods and a few showers in the early morning and again in the evening. Also northeast breezes.

It's a three-clothing layer day, with an expected high of 15 and an overnight low of 8 degrees.

Tomorrow, Monday, there are cloudy periods forecast but with afternoon fine spells, and noertheasterlies. Going into the week, most days are forecast to be cloudy with light winds.

The Waihi Beach Surf School are running free surf courses to teach kids about ocean safety and awareness, how to catch and ride waves, surfing equipment and how to have fun in the surf. For those with previous surfing experience, advanced skills will be taught such as getting out the back, turning the surfboard, duckdiving and riding across the wave. This is a great opportunity to get the kids out of the house and into something healthy and fun these school holidays. The three-day surf courses run from October 6-8 and October 11-13, from 11am – 12pm. For ages 8-17 years. More information here

Omokoroa Country Estate are hosting a free spring garden ramble open day from 10am – 2pm at 5 Anderley Ave, Omokoroa. Throughout the day there'll be guided tours of the expansive gardens, fantastic giveaways, food, entertainment, an e-bike and motorhome display. More information here

Join the Snap Fitness team at the Papamoa Domain as they lead everyone off on a Walk for Awareness Beach Walk to raise awareness for Mental Health Month. Walk leaves at 9am for an 8km round trip beach walk. This is an opportunity for the community to come together to support each other, remember those who we have lost to suicide, to break the silence on mental illness and to contribute to the funding of free counselling that are making a difference NZ kids with mental health issues. This year, 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the I AM HOPE charity.

The Homes of Hope are holding a market day from 10am – 2pm at the Historic Village Hall at Tauranga Historic Village. Check out more information here

The Bethlehem Te Puna Lions are also holding their twice monthly Historic Village Market, from 8am – 12pm outdoors at the village.

The Dear Boobs exhibition at Tauranga Historic Village celebrates one year of sharing the Dear Boobs book, within waiting rooms across the globe. One hundred letters to boobs from women affected by breast cancer are represented by NZ artists. The artworks created on bags will be sold to support the ongoing work of The Dear Boobs Project.

The Ninja Knits are holding their Sunday hook up event at The Incubator Creative Hub from 9am – 12pm. This get-together is for knitters and crocheters. All welcome. More here

Celebrate the start to the Bay of Plenty cruise season by waving goodbye to the first cruise ship in port today. The MS Maasdam is due to depart at 6.30pm.

The Incubator Creative Hub is holding an ‘Exhibition of Exhibitions'. Fifteen artists have taken inspiration from the brief to stage their own tiny exhibition on an "island". Works are suspended from The Incubator roof in a fantastical display of multi-media sculpture, jewellery, painting, collage and everything in between. The exhibition runs until October 26.

The Macandmor Gallery is holding an exhibition by artist Lorraine Bailey titled ‘Petals & Places'. The gallery is located in the Goddards Centre.

Dean Flavell and Adrienne Martyn

A Tauranga Heritage Collection photographic exhibition by Adrienne Martyn sponsored by Tauranga Peugeot acknowledging the ancient legends of Poutini, Mata and Hinehoanga is on at Kowhai Interiors & Art Gallery at the 11th Ave Plaza. The exhibition is titled ‘Kaikauhoe Pounamu Taonga o Tauranga Moana' and runs from 9.30am – 2pm, until November 2.

It's time for Sundays Sessions with Mike Garner and Warren Houston, who are performing from 3pm – 6pm at the Mount Social Club in Maunganui Rd. Don't miss these versatile bluesmen as they perform an eclectic mix of acoustic blues, ragtime, jug band, Americana and original songs.

Our Place Tauranga will be the Tauranga City home of The Rugby World Cup and will be showing all of the RWC games live. Come down to Our Place in Willow St, Tauranga to watch NZ play Namibia at 5.45pm and France v Tonga at 8.45pm.
