Lonestar T20 resumes

The Lonestar Rotorua and Tauranga Twenty20, which resumes today is wide open with six of the eight teams having a realistic chance of taking out the title.

The great leveller in the Baywide T20 is that the competition is played when the Bay rep players are absent from their club sides on Bay of Plenty representative duty.

The inaugural Baywide T20 roadshow has already visited Rotorua and the Eastern Bay of Plenty with Saturday's rounds being played at Fergusson Park in Tauranga.

Feedback received suggests that the eight teams from throughout the Bay enjoy playing at a single venue where they can all socialise together after the day's cricket.

With four teams holding a share of the lead there is likely to be intense competition in rounds five and six leading into the series finale next weekend.

The match-up between Eves Realty Greerton and Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui could produce a run fest.

While Greerton will be without master blaster Brett Hampton (on Bay rep duty), they have several batsmen in good form in the Williams Cup.

Shane Wineti leads the Williams Cup batting stats with 270 runs averaging 67 runs per game with Craig Budd also in good touch.

While Mount Maunganui lose five players to the Bay side, which is playing Poverty Bay at the BOP Cricket Oval, the real strength of the club is the ability of its second tier players to step up and make their mark.

Former premier captain Blair Parlane, who is playing reserve grade cricket this season, is one who will always answer the Mount call to duty.

In other round five games, the winner of the East Bay United versus BOP Indians will move off the bottom of the standings, Element IMF Cadets meet Te Puke, with Tauranga Boys' College going head to head with iTCo Central.

Mid-afternoon round six matches see Greerton against Central, Te Puke meeting Tauranga Boys', East Bay United versus Cadets and Mount Maunganui facing BOP Indians.
