Wild weather is creating some havoc in the region with trees being uprooted and power outages.

Earlier this morning, SunLive reported power outages in Waihi and Ohauiti.

Those areas are still without power, along with homes in Katikati, Paeroa, Karangahake, Thames and Hikuai.

Powerco is reporting 'strong wind” as the cause of the outages.

Estimated times for restoration range from around 12pm to 3pm.

There are also reports of trees down around the region.

One is a big tree on The Strand, near the Dive Crescent railway lines.

Photos sent to SunLive show the tree has been ripped from its roots and it very close to the road.

Motorists are warned to drive with care.

A severe weather warning for strong wind remains in place for the region.

'A deep low is forecast to move southeastwards across the upper North Island during Tuesday, then move away to the east on Wednesday,” says the MetService.

'Heavy rain and strong east to southeasterly winds associated with this system are expected for many parts of the North Island and upper South Island through to Wednesday.”

Area: Coromandel Peninsula, and Bay of Plenty west of Te Puke
Valid: 14 hours from 9pm Monday to 11am Tuesday
Forecast: Expect 100 to 140mm of rain about the ranges, with 70 to 90mm nearer the east coast. Peak rates of 15 to 25mm per hour, especially about the ranges.
Changes: Bay of Plenty west of Te Puke has now been upgraded from a Watch to a Warning (Orange), and a Watch remains in force for the area east of Te Puke to Opotiki and now includes Rotorua. Also, the rain is expected to ease significantly late Tuesday morning, and although another period of brief heavy rain is possible Tuesday evening, it is no longer expected to reach Warning amounts, so the Warning is now only valid until 11am Tuesday instead of 11pm Tuesday.

I walk by this tree a lot and have always noticed the bulging at the roots on the one side and was wondering if it might tip over one day. I wonder if they'll be able to re-plant it? Like Bruja said, it's a beautiful tree to sit under.
