Aspiring pilot Axel Janello is still beaming from his plane ride from Germany to Auckland when he got a first hand glimpse of the cockpit.
'We spent three weeks in Germany visiting family at Christmas time,” says Axel's father Andreas.
Axel Janello is one of very few people invited to see the cockpit after his Air New Zealand flight from Germany to Auckland.
'He wrote a letter to the pilot before we boarded the plane and tried to deliver it personally during the flight. He probably got stopped somewhere near first class and was brought back to his seat, but was later invited by the pilot to see the cockpit.
'He was mesmerised by all the lights and buttons and the pilot took photos for him. Even after more than 40 hours of travelling, Axel left Auckland wide awake – he's still beaming.”
Axel is a Year 5 student at Bethlehem College. Andreas says Axel is really into maths and English and is enthusiastic about learning and doing his homework every night to help him achieve his dream of becoming a pilot.
