One person has been injured following an assault in Tauranga earlier today.

Police responded to a report of an assault at an address on Cheyne Road, Pyes Pa at 11.46am.

One person sustained injuries and has been taken to the hospital, a police spokesperson says.

Police are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances, the spokesperson says.

Earlier today police were also called to reports of disorder near the intersection of Cameron Road and 17th Ave.

The disorder occurred around 10.05am and a police spokesperson says there are no injuries reported at present.

A reporter at the scene says the police air support unit, eagle helicopter has landed in the area.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there was a group of people fighting in the area.
