A Bay of Plenty school is confident those responsible for setting fire to its playground will be caught.
Firefighters were called to Apanui School in Whakatane following reports of the playground being on fire at about 8.30pm.
A post on the school's Facebook page says the school's senior playground was deliberately set fire to overnight.
'The police already have names and we are confident we will have video of them too. Thanks to the fire brigade, police and neighbours.
'Please have a chat with your children about the fire so they are prepared for today. The area is roped off but toxic from smoke, plastics etc.
'A quick look at our CCTV footage last night provides evidence of who was involved. We will work with the Police and other groups today to begin the process of making Apanui safe and planning for a rebuild.”
