Fergus Hickey final match

Bay of Plenty has the opportunity to win a second piece of Northern Districts silverware this weekend when the Bay senior men's team plays archrival Hamilton in what has become the final of the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl competition.

Fergus Hickey success would give Bay of Plenty the symbol of Northern Districts Cricket for the third time in just three seasons.

If the Bay of Plenty side wins the prestigious trophy it will join the Basil McBurney Trophy that the Bay Development side won in February.

However, Hamilton is arguably the best minor association in the country, holding the Hawke Cup in its possession.

The Waikato side, which won the long-time New Zealand Cricket minor association prize last season has repelled all direct challenges in 2012.

The Bay of Plenty representatives will be well aware of the firepower of the Hamilton unit after being comprehensively defeated at the ND one-day tournament in November.

Hamilton simply blasted the Bay at Owen Delaney Park posting 315/5 in 50 overs then bowling the Bay of Plenty out for just 164.

Bay of Plenty quickly rebounded from the first-up defeat and now sits in second place on the Fergus Hickey standings, a solitary point behind the Waikato city team.

This weekend's encounter has now become a sudden death shootout, with the winner holding aloft the Fergus Hickey prize in victory.

The Bay of Plenty team is unchanged for the match at the BOP Cricket Oval at Mount Maunganui from the side that comprehensively beat Poverty Bay at the Oval last weekend.

Bay skipper Jono Boult has developed into a genuine all-rounder this season.

While he has smashed over 1500 runs for the Bay first XI, it is his feats with the ball that have led the way for his team this season.

A remarkable 30 wickets (with a game in hand) has seen Jono surge past Black Cap Graeme Aldridge's tally of 26 wickets in the 2004/05 season.

Testament to his outstanding form is his two six wicket bags in the season, to become just the sixth Bay player to achieve the feat.

Bay of Plenty vs Hamilton

Jono Boult (captain) Peter Drysdale, Joe Carter, Bharat Popli, Matthew Drake, Scott Steward, Tim Clarke, Brett Hampton, Dale Swan, Sean Davey, Tony Goodin, Amandeep Singh.

Fergus Hickey Points
