Tauranga City Council is reporting work to install ultrafast broadband is happening in various parts of the city this week.
It is being done from 13th Avenue to 15th Avenue, Devonport Road to Harvey Street, in the area from Judea to the Brookfield Roundabout, in the industrial and residential areas around Hull Road, and Golf Road to Tay Street and at Mount Maunganui.
Most of the work is being done off the road.
The ultrafast broadband project is a central government initiative.

Parks
- Contractors have been managing a potential slip at Yatton Park. The area has been cordoned off, including a section of the path.
Transportation
Annual Resealing Programme: Resealing continues on various streets around the city in the annual reseal programme.
Cambridge Road: Work to upgrade Cambridge Road between Miles Lane and River Oak Drive continues. Please expect delays and use an alternative route if possible.
City Centre Intersections: Minor work to improve safety at the following inner city intersections: Willow Street and Harington Street, Willow Street and McLean Street and Hamilton Street and Durham Street starts this week.
Courtney Road: Final resurfacing will be done shortly, weather permitting.
Domain Road: Work to widen the road and construct a pedestrian refuge at Topaz Drive reserve is continuing. Please take care when passing through the area.
SH 29 Between Poike Roundabout and Oropi Roundabout: Following planned resealing work on Sunday 4 March (weather permitting) there will be a temporary speed restriction in place on a short section of State Highway 29 between Poike Roundabout and the Oropi Roundabout. Drivers are advised to watch for loose chip on the road and to take extra care when driving through the area.
SH 2 off ramp to Beaumaris Boulevard: Following planned resealing work on Sunday 4 March (weather permitting) there will be a temporary speed restriction in place on the off ramp for a few days. Welcome Bay Road: Work to lay a new wastewater pipe on the road shoulder between Forrester Drive and Waitaha Road is underway. Most of the work will be done off the road and disruption to traffic is expected to be minimal.
City Waters
Water Supply:
- Watermain upgrade work on Kaniere Street is on schedule. Testing and sterilization is programmed for early next week. Esk Street has not commenced yet. Notification to affected residents will be delivered prior to any works commencing.
- Drawings and tender documents are currently being prepared for a watermain upgrade on Eleventh Avenue. Tenders close on 12 March and works are programmed to commence on 2 April
Drainage
- Two reported sewer blockages were attended to this week. These did not cause an overflow to a stormwater drain.
- Stormwater ponds in Royal Palm Beach and Sovereign Drain are being cleaning of weed.
- A stormwater outlet in the sand dunes off Marine Parade opposite Banks Avenue is being cleared. The manhole chamber has been cleaned out of a quantity of sand along with the pipeline being flushed to fix a street drainage problem.
- In Carlton Reserve the various drain channels are to be cleaned of overgrowing vegetation.
Stormwater Pollution:
- One pollution incident was reported this week.
- Pollution prevention audits of around 170 Auto Workshops are now complete. No major issues were discovered during the audits. The most significant issues involved poor waste.
