Police car rammed in pursuit near Matamata

Police are searching for a vehicle after it rammed a police car during a pursuit through Matamata.

A police spokeswoman says police attempted to stop the vehicle due to dangerous driving on Totara Avenue, Matamata, at 3.48pm.

Post on Facebook from people who witnessed the chase say the vehicle was doing speeds of up to 200km/h.

Stuff reports the driver escaped and was seen a short time later speeding along State Highway 24, near the bottom of the Kaimai Ranges,.

The vehicle took off and police briefly pursued before abandoning the chase due to the manner of driving from the vehicle.

Police are still looking for the vehicle and the driver.

just watched a video of this event,the car reversing towards the police car being shunted backwards a couple of times.Why didnt the police car react by driving into it to clip one of the corners and spinning it out

How did he get away? Tyres were spiked and the car looked to be fairly well damaged after ramming two cop cars..
