Gun crime

If the labour government wants to get tough on gun crime like they said, then the gun conviction sentence should be a separate crime and served in full on top of the total time given, if any, and not made concurrent.

Not living in fear

I support the police crackdown on gangs, but the government and citizens must get behind them and not cry civil rights etc. I don't like the mayor saying the community is living in fear. That's an over the top exaggeration, not appreciated by the sensible sector of the community.

It's pretty obvious...

… that gun crime is increasing and it needs to be stamped on. Anyone firing a gun at police should automatically receive a decent jail term (say, 5 years...) to reinforce the point that that is unacceptable. I agree with Lyrch that the gun penalty should be a separate crime without concurrent sentencing.
