The search for the missing swimmer who got into difficulty at Waihi Beach on Friday February 21 has resumed again today.

The teenage boy reportedly got caught in a rip.

Today's search will once again be assisted by Waihi Beach Lifeguards using inflatable rescue boats and jet skis.

On Friday Police were advised that there was a person having trouble in the sea at 12.40pm.

"The person had been part of a group swimming at the beach,” says a Police spokesperson.

An initial search was carried out by the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter, however, it was unsuccessful.

Waihi lifeguards, IRBs and the Coastguard continued with a search on Friday.

The search was continued on Saturday, with Waihi Beach Lifeguard members using inflatable rescue boats to search the area.

Surf Life Saving NZ is urging beach goers to be extra vigilant this weekend, and throughout the rest of summer.
