Cricket season comes to an end

Today the cricket season that started in summer come to an end with the finals of the Reserve and B Grade championships.

The Reserve Grade title will be fought out between the two top qualifiers of Otumoetai Cadets and Katikati.

In their semi-final encounter, Katikati batted first and defended 176/8 against Greerton Hornets, who were bundled out for 84 - while Cadets repelled a spirited challenge from Tauranga Boys' College.

In B Grade, Grasshoopers came from the fourth qualifying spot, to eliminate Papamoa, who hadn't dropped a game in the championship round robin play.

While Grasshoppers were restricted to 185, they bowled the top qualifiers out for 154 to grab a place in the final.

Grasshoppers opponents in the last stanza will be the second Katikati team. To get to the last match of the season, the team from the extremities of the Western Bay had to defeat defending champions Wanderers.

After being removed for 213, Katikati bowled with real enthusiasm to restrict the defending titleholders to 147/9.
