Rugby games spread over Easter

The Seeka KI Western Bay of Plenty Rugby championship will be spread over three days due to the Easter Holiday break.

Mount Maunganui, who sits astride the top of the point's standings after two rounds, should get a real test of their championship aspirations, when they meet Tauranga Sports in the battle of the bridge curtain raiser at the Tauranga Domain on Saturday.

The two clubs second fifteens, have both been prominent in the Baywide Reserve Grade playoffs during the last decade, with Mount Maunganui the current Baywide titleholder.

Arataki Black, who sit on the maximum points along with Mount Maunganui and Judea, are sure to want to make a emphatic statement when they play Rangataua at Te Ariki Park. The Arataki side laid down the challenge to the other contenders, defeating 2011 Western Bay champions Matakana Island on the opening day of the season.

Matakana Island rebounded from their first up loss, to post 78 unanswered points against Papamoa last weekend. They will travel to Maramatanga Park on Saturday, to square off against Te Puna.

Eastern Districts and Papamoa will open the Western Bay competition weekend on Thursday evening, when they play under lights at the Paengaroa Domain. Friday afternoon will see Katikati host Rangiuru at Moore Park. Te Puke Sports and Greerton Marist will go to battle on Saturday with Judea putting the Hardy Rosebowl on the line against Arataki Red.
