A man is due to appear in court today facing a raft of driving related charges after a police pursuit through the Bay of Plenty.
The 20-year-old man was arrested after allegedly fleeing police on State Highway 2, near Opotiki.
A police spokesperson says officers attempted to pull over a vehicle at 5.50pm on Wainui Road, due to excessive speed.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
"The fleeing vehicle then reversed the car into the police vehicle and the pursuit was abandoned.
"Police officers then sighted the vehicle and the pursuit was resumed."
The vehicle was eventually stopped on Richard Street."
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The accused fleeing driver is due to appear in Whakatane District Court today on a number of charges, including reckless driving, failing to stop when required and wilful damage.
