Joseph's father David Millar spoke with Joseph, who arrives back in New Zealand this evening, following the race and says he was very emotional.

'So amazing. He has achieved his goal to be the fastest 200m runner in New Zealand, and now Australasia.”

David says Joseph had a great start, backing off only slightly in the turn as he hit the top end of the track.

He was fourth coming into the straight, but David says he focused on the line and edged out the other competitors.

Joseph will now head to Japan, where he and three other New Zealand runners will attempt an Olympic qualifier in the 100m relay.

'Wow, we can relax a bit now, celebrate a bit, and look forward to Japan,” says David.
