Katikati and Arataki remain unbeaten

Katikati and Arataki Black continued their unbeaten start to the 2012 Seeka KI Western BOP championship, when they both posted solid wins at the weekend.

At Moore Park in Katikati the home side were always in control against Arataki Red. While the Arataki side never gave up the fight, the well-drilled Katikati team were never in danger of defeat.

Katikati coach Toni Murray, who took his charges to the brink of the Baywide Division One final last year, has his troops again playing disciplined and well structured rugby.

On Saturday the Katikati side spelt out their Western Bay championship aspirations, to defeat the Arataki side 52-10.

Joint championship leaders Arataki were given a good test by Te Puke Sports at Grenada Park.

While Te Puke were in contention for early in the encounter they were eventually beaten 36-10 in a fast paced contest.

Papamoa got their championship aspirations on track, when they posted a good win against Rangataua at Gordon Spratt Reserve.

The Maungatapu team who play a physical game started well, but the continual Papamoa pressure saw the home side post a 34-5 victory.

Eastern Districts and Judea engaged in a good contest at ED headquarters, which also had the Hardy Rosebowl (Western BOP challenge trophy) on the line, before the visitors grabbed the ascendancy to get home 27-15.

While Mount Maunganui bounced back from last week's loss to archrivals Tauranga Sports, they were made to battle all the way, as the eked out a 14 nil win. Tauranga Sports cruised past Te Puna at Maramatanga Park 37-10, with Rangiuru defaulting to Matakana Island.
