Members of the Tauranga Indoor Bowls Association have been selected to play in the Top 16 to represent Tauranga at the coveted Hone Trophy.

Three teams of four players will play against Poverty Bay, Thames Valley and Counties at the tournament.

The Tauranga Women's 12 of Fiona Wilson (Captain), Glenda Walker, Dianne Garrett, Sharon Hook, Karen TeTamaki, Tracy Bethell, Pam Larsen, Jeanette Riley, Lorraine Phipps, Anne Kershaw and Alison Cowan.

Tauranga Indoor Bowls Association press reporter Alex Reed says the teams are vastly experienced consisting of seven current or former North Island players and two current New Zealand players.

'Well done also to Josh Saywell for making the team for the first time at the age of 16.”

The teams consist of Team 1: Paul Smith, Ben Thurston, Mike Phipps and Alison Cowan. Team 2 is Simon Poppleton, Fiona Wilson, Alex Reed and Lorraine Phipps and Team 3 is Keith Setter, Willie Rhudolph, Geoff Coughey and Josh Saywell.

Tauranga Indoor Bowls has also enjoyed success with the Tauranga Women's 12 at their second appearance at the Bettridge Sheild.

Alex says the team came out 'guns blazing” to achieve a convincing win of 128 game points over Waikato's 119, Bay of Plenty's 101 and Thames Valleys' 84.
