New chairman for Bay rugby

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union has a new chairman with Glenn Cotterill replacing outgoing chairman Bruce Cameron.

The change has been made after Cameron was nominated as the North Zone representative for the Board of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Cameron's appointment to the New Zealand Rugby Union Board will be ratified at the New Zealand Rugby Union AGM in May.

Bay rugby chief executive officer Mike Rogers says he is delighted Bruce is joining the board.

'While this means he has to step down from being on the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union Board, we have no doubt that Bruce will continue to be a strong contributor to rugby in the Bay with his new position.”

Cameron has contributed significantly to rugby in the Bay of Plenty as a player, manager and most recently an administrator.

Cameron become chairman on the Bay board in 2008 and has played a key role in the recent success of the union.

'The Board has worked hard on ensuring a strong succession plan was in place and having Glenn step up from Deputy Chairman is an example of this strategy working.

'The Board felt it was important to make this decision now to ensure a smooth transition rather than wait until the NZRU AGM in May. We will now also look to fill the vacant director position with a suitably qualified individual.”
