10am Update: Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 25 is closed between Hikuai and Tairua due to flooding, following heavy overnight rain.

Waikato System Manager Cara Lauder says motorists should avoid the area or delay their travel where possible.

Anyone wishing to travel to or from Tairua or Whitianga this morning will need to use the Thames Coast Road via Coromandel township, until the road reopens.

There has been flooding at a number of locations overnight and there is also a small slip on State Highway 25A.

'Drive to the conditions and watch out for surface flooding, slips and fallen trees or branches.
