The family of a Tauranga woman killed in a crash want to thank those who came to her aid.

The woman died after being run over by a vehicle on Cameron Road.

Emergency services were called to the fatal incident, near Arundel Street, at 12.41pm on Tuesday.

A number of people rushed to help the woman, when the vehicle rolled on top of her.

A witness at the scene says about 15 people worked to pull the car off her.

The victim's family say they are grateful for everyone's efforts to help their loved one.

'We just want to thank everyone who helped. We are still trying to process it all, but just want to thank everyone involved yesterday.”

The exact details of what happened are yet to be confirmed by police, but witnesses say the woman fell out of the vehicle when reversing, and it rolled on top of her.

Harinder Singh, who works at the Sosha store, told Stuff he saw the accident occur, and has since checked CCTV footage.

A woman driving a van was reversing into a park outside the studio when she opened the door to look behind her, says Singh.

It appeared she accelerated, rather than pressing the brake, says Singh.

'She fell down under the car and the car went on top of her.”

The car backed into the dance studio window, where it smashed the glass.

Singh and other onlookers rushed out to help, and it took about 10-15 people to push the car off her, says Singh.

Singh and other workers were shaken up after the incident, he says.

Waldo Posthumus, who runs the W Dance and Fitness studio with his partner, says the car had taken out the dance studio's window and part of a door.

People were inside the studio at the time but no-one was injured by the smashed glass.

'It's really sad, we didn't expect this to happen.”
