Down to the last end

The Tauranga Indoor Bowls Association held its mens, ladies and junior under-18 singles in the weekend.

Mens singles runner up Craig Whiteside.

All of the finals came down to the last end and this goes to show the incredible strength of the field; In the men's singles, Mike Phipps defeated Craig Whiteside on the last end of a fantastic final after trailing 8-2 after three ends of the 10 end game, he clawed back the points and eventually the match. Third equal went to last year's winner and runner-up Phillip Gunderson and Keith Setter, all of the players that placed play out of South City Club.

In the women's singles the final came down to a match between Bev Chisholm (Putaruru Plaza) and last year's runner up, Lorraine Phipps.

After yet another amazing final the Game came down to the last end with Bev emerging victorious and claiming the women's singles trophy. Taking away third equal was Debbie Reed (Gate Pa Club) and Karen Te Tamiki (South City Club).

The junior singles came down to a fantastic final between pre-tournament favourite Josh Saywell (Fire Brigade Club) and Samantha Jacobs (Tauranga RSA).

It was a titanic battle with the lead exchanging hands many times throughout the game after the full 12 ends the score was locked so a deciding end had to be played, with Samantha emerging the winner by 1 point.

Samantha will now go on to represent the Tauranga district in the Under-18 Nationals in Wellington in August.

Third equal went to James Thomson and Kasey Garforth, both of St Andrews Club, Matamata.
