Double header at Maramatanga Park

A rare Seeka KI Western BOP double header will take place at Maramatanga Park on Saturday (5 May 2012). In display of co-operation that typifies Western Bay local rugby, a Western Bay curtain raiser will provide the entrée to competition leaders Arataki Black encounter with Te Puna at Te Puna HQ.

Nearly three hundred points and an unbeaten record, has resulted in Arataki Black making the early running in pursuit of the Combined Cup. Last weekend the competition leaders ran in sixteen tries when they swept aside the challenge from their club mates in Arataki Red.

While the season scorecards would suggest an easy victory for Arataki Black – Te Puna struck form last week posting their first win of the season, when they defeated Greerton Marist 37-25.

Matakana Island has given up home ground advantage on the Island, to meet Arataki Red in the early game at Maramatanga Park. Matakana sit just of the pace in the title race, after lowering the Katikati colours for the first time last weekend. While Matakana will enter the contest as odds on favourites, the Arataki side will receive plenty of sideline support from their army of supporters that are likely to converge on Maramatanga Park.

Katikati should have little trouble bouncing back from the one point loss to Matakana, when Eastern Districts pay a visit to Moore Park, on the weekend. Tauranga Sports who have quietly moved into a share of second, will be looking for maximum points from Rangataua in an early game at the Tauranga Domain.

Baywide Reserve Grade titleholders Mount Maunganui, could have a battle of attrition with Papamoa at Blake Park. The Papamoa side is another to share second place and have the Baywide playoffs firmly on there agenda.

Te Puke Sports will take part in a Te Puke local derby when Rangiuru travel the short distance to Murray Salt Stadium, while Greerton Marist will host Judea at Greerton Park.
