UPDATED 6.20pm: One person has died following a crash on State Highway 2 near Katikati.
Police have confirmed one person has died following the crash on Main Rd, near the Jocelyn St intersection.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash between two vehicles at 4.07pm.
A powerpole was blocking one lane, the road remains closed and diversions are in place.
Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
EARLIER: A person is in a serious condition and State Highway 2 in Katikati is closed following a crash.
Emergency services are responding to a two-vehicle collision on Main Road, Katikati.
The highway is closed between Jocelyn Street and Fairview Road.
Police were notified at 4:07pm of the accident and a powerpole is on the road following the crash.
Initial indications suggest one person has serious injuries says a police spokesperson.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, diversions will be in place.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising of the following diversions.
For Northbound traffic, turn right onto Farview Road, left onto Carisbrooke Street, left onto Beach Road, then right back onto SH2.
It is the reverse for Southbound traffic.
State Highway 33 crash
Motorists are also being asked to avoid the area near Okere Falls on State Highway 33 due to another crash involving three vehicles.
Police were alerted to the crash around 3:33pm, the scene was just before the turn off into Okere Falls.
Initial indications suggest one person is injured, says a police statement.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and delays are likely.
