My motto is: be prepared

Now here is a story that would warm good Baden Powell's heart. Being GGB time again (Girl Guide Biscuits in twolegger terms) I thought I should bring this tail to the fore.

Years ago, my old boxer mate Tasha got left alone inside, while I was sent to Grandma's. By the time the bosses arrived home, Tasha had spent the entire day climbing in and out of windows, burying an entire box of GGBs packets around the section. She left a trail of mud throughout the house and the boss people did not seem happy to cough up for the entire box of biscuits that they didn't get to eat.
Not that I minded at all. Over the next few years, even after old Tasha went to the big kennel in the sky, I could go out and dig up a packet or two whenever my rib cage was starting to show through my sultry coat. Good on you Tasha, I know we had our differences, but you were always looking out for me, and you definitely taught me a trick or two in your old age.
Now it looks like the worm has turned, so to speak. In the next week or so I am going to be the surrogate brother to an addition to our family. The boss man's apprentice is getting me a playmate! At last, I can pass on my knowledge to one so young, as Tasha did for me. This is going to be fun!
I have another picture for the bitch of the year competition, and since it was Guinness day on Tuesday, I thought this one was appropriate as it has come all the way from the Emerald Isles.
Righty-o, then. Let's get to the bestest-value-for-your-money-butcher-shop in town, where the quality will never let you down. Johnny's place, the Aussie Butchers in Gate Pa, of course.
Get along and see him, as he has Sirloin Steak on special this week (and no, that does not translate to 'sore loins”).

'Sirloin Steak with Mushroom Marsala'

Ingredients
2 tbsp olive oil
1 small white onion, finely diced
3/4 pounds mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
1 cup Marsala wine
1/2 cup beef stock
1/2 tbsp freshly chopped thyme leaves
4 sirloin steaks
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup unsalted butter
Fresh chives, chopped

Method
Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan. Cook the onion and mushrooms gently until tender. Deglaze the pan with the wine and add the stock and fresh thyme. Simmer and allow the sauce to reduce by two-thirds.
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and season meat on both sides with salt and pepper. Sear the meat on both sides, cook to desired temperature and remove meat from grill and let rest.
Strain Marsala sauce and whisk in butter to finish. Season with salt and pepper, as needed. Spoon the sauce over the grilled steaks and garnish with chopped chives. Serves 4.

'Surfer on Acid'

Ingredients
1/2 oz Jagermeister
1/2 oz Malibu Rum
1/2 oz Pineapple Juice

Method
Shake ingredients with ice to chill. Strain into a large shot glass or old-fashioned glass and shoot.
Well see you all next week, and remember, do it to them before they do it to you.
