A 25-year-old Timaru man will appear in the Timaru District Court charged with murder following the discovery of a body in a residential street in the early hours of Friday morning.

The deceased was removed from the scene on Friday night and taken to Christchurch for a post mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

The details of the deceased will not be released at this stage until permission is obtained from the Coroner.

Police will be working on their investigation over the weekend.
