UPDATE 3.21PM: One person is dead following a crash on State Highway 27.
Emergency services are at the scene of the fatal crash on SH27, between Tatuanui and Patetonga.
"Police can now confirm that one person has died at the scene following a serious crash on State Highway 27, Patetonga in Waikato," says a police spokesperson.
"Police were called about 1:14pm.
"Part of the road still remains closed and diversions will be in place."
EARLIER:
A section of State Highway 27 is closed following reports of a serious crash.
NZTA says the highway is closed in both directions from Mangatarata to Tatuanui.
"Due to a serious crash north of Maukoro Landing Road, the highway is closed between Paeroa-Tahuna Rd and SH2 Mangatarata.
"Allow extra time for your journey and expect delays."
Motorists are advised to follow the directions of emergency services.
