SH2 reopens after serious crash

UPDATED 2.35pm: State Highway 2 is reportely reopened after a serious two vehicle crash in Te Puna.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the road has just been reopened and traffic is very heavy but moving nicely.

A police spokesperson says they were notified of the incident between Clarke Road and Te Puna Road at 12.35pm.

Police are yet to confirm the road is officially open.

EARLIER: Motorists are being advised to expect delays following a serious two vehicle crash on State Highway Two in Te Puna.

A police spokesperson says they were notified of the incident between Clarke Road and Te Puna Road at 12.35pm.

A St John spokesperson says three ambulances are currently on scene. Three people are in serious condition, and one other is in moderate condition.

"The road is blocked as a result of the crash," says the police spokesperson.

"Diversions will be put in place. Please avoid the area if you can."

I was caught up in the traffic aftermath of this accident. The amount of people driving and texting and talking on their phones was unbelievable. Time Police came down bloody hard on this. Most were hands free driving so TOTALLY out of control of their vehicles.
