UPDATE: State Highway 2 is open after a crash between Clarke Road and Te Puna Station Road this morning.

The southbound lane was blocked, and motorists were advised to follow the directions of emergency services.

NZTA says the incident is now cleared and traffic is returning to normal.

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of traffic building up on State Highway 2 near Bethlehem this morning.

According to the Google Live Traffic reporting, traffic is stalled near the Wairoa Bridge.

SunLive has received reports that there are a number of police units in the area.
