A community organisation is calling on Tauranga residents to donate their unwanted lawnmowers to local families in need.
Good Neighbour is on the hunt for mowers to clean, fix and deliver to deserving families for the 2020 Lawnmower Drive.
Good Neighbour spokesperson Angela Rogers says the organisation have been running a lawnmower programme for the last 2 years where families can come and borrow a mower.
'It's been great to be able to give families the independence to be able to look after their own properties and take pride in their homes.
'Over the years we have developed a relationship with families and now we would like to lift the burden of having to borrow one or hire one or trying to buy one as it's simply something they can't afford to do.”
She is urging residents with lawnmowers they do not use to donate them to the cause.
'Help us to get people the tools they need to take pride in their properties and lend their lawnmowers around their neighbours too. One lawnmower will help much more than one property.”
Bay of Plenty business Action Equipment will help fix all the donated lawnmowers. Old mowers can be dropped at their Tauranga, Katikati and Te Puke stores.
Angela says once volunteers have prepared the lawn mowers they will be delivered to families in time for Christmas.
Mowers can be dropped at 15 Glasgow St in Tauranga, 271 Jellicoe St in Te Puke and 108 Main Road in Katikati.
